During the Open XML standardisation process there was a lot of discussion about the adoption rates of Open XML and ODF. On Gray Knowlton’s blog today there is an interesting “then and now” post which is worth a read if you’re interested in such things. He also makes a very good point that the main goal is interoperability between the formats and, over time, making a dent in the numbers of binary documents out there.
